Best upgrade path from 2.10.6 to 3.2.3

Page 1 of 2Next

Hi all,

It took me a while but now all my hardware is OS3 complaint.  I replaced my HC800 with an EA-5 but still have the HC800 as a controller in the system with no video out.

What is the best migration path from 2.10.6?  I'm going to assume I can't go straight to 3.2.3.  From the posts I've read it seems like I can go to 3.1.1 and then 3.2.3.  The last thing I want to end up with is a bricked system.

Honestly, I would start in the 3.0.X release, then jump to 3.1.x then 3.2.x then 3.2.3. I do not really recall a step process. I have rebuilt my HC800 multiple be setting it back to its factory recovery OS (9.5.3). Was only a few jumps between v1 to v2 to v3 finally. However you are already in v2, so maybe play it safe and enter base V3, then v3.1.1, and then 3.2.3.

If something goes wrong and you have to factory reset it will be on v1 9.5.3 as it's an HC800. It's not really that bad if starting over, just make sure you have a good project backup file.

The EA-5 is the main controller... I have the HC800 also online but not really using it.  Maybe this weekend I'll give it a shot.

You need the recompiled version of the Jailbreak tool for 3.2.3. Garry hasn't released a new version but all it requires is a recompile with the latest version of OpenSSH for it to work with 3.2.3.

Ok well I took the plunge yesterday and got my system up to 3.0.  Everything looks good and I have access.  The navigators are acting a little wonky.  Like on a touchscreen or phone I can see 'Comfort' in the Kitchen where I have a fireplace but it doesn't appear in the onscreen navigation.  I'm deciding what version to upgrade to now.

Follow-up: 3.1.2 achieved!  Is it worth going to 3.2.4?

the jump to 3.2.x is worth it. 3.2.4  is working fine for me, just depends what features you really care about but definitely more stable than 3.1.x

Thanks!

I got it to 3.2.3 using Garry's Jailbreak to enable Composer 3.2.3 but still updated the license file myself as I have root access to my EA-1.

I get the initial error that the Composer is not online but then everything works as expected.

@Infinitus... for 3.2.4 - did you also update the Composer?  I tried 3.2.4 Composer with Garry's Jailbreak and it didn't work.

Follow-up:  Garry's V5 Jailbreak works with 3.2.4 Composer.  I updated to 3.2.4 and didn't have to update the clientca_prod.pem and I have access via Composer.

Glad you got it working! But to answer your question, I've admittedly never used his jailbreak. I always download newest version of Composer Pro and install. Then I update all the devices in the new version (in this case 3.2.4). Wait however long til that is done on the main controller. Then I restart the controller and manually SCP the clientca_prod.pem file from the director to my computer just for safe keeping in case, and then SCP the modified clientca_prod.pem file from my computer to the director.

I used the jailbreak to tweak the config file to prevent Composer Pro 3.2.3 and 3.2.4 from 'phoning home'.  I did all the other stuff manually too.  Updating from 2.10.6 also fixed a problem I was experiencing.  When using Alexa I'd say "Alexa, turn on kitchen lights" and the first response would be "Sorry, kitchen lights is not responding".  Saying it a second time got it to turn the kitchen lights on.  Now with OS3+ that problem went away.  All commands work first time, and I have a LOT of them.  That alone made it worth the upgrade.  The customizable touch screens on on-screen navigation is also way cool.  When I got the house it had Control4 improperly installed.  The owner was setup using the Control4 app on a Samsung tablet.  The home theater where the main controller is wasn't even hooked into the video of the room.

Does anyone want to help me out upgrading from 2.10.6 to 3.2.3. I can compensate if it's not too expensive.
